Who We Are

Gym Floor Inspectors LLC was founded in 2004 by Floyd Shelton. In 2005 he started Arizona Gym Floors, LLC in Scottsdale, Arizona and sold the company in 2024. He holds seven sports floor patents, established the world’s only gym flooring installation school, and has taught over 1500 students the proper technique of sports floor installation.

Our Inspectors Can Help You

Gym Floor Problems

The most common maple gym floor problems typically occur due to poor installation. Our experts are trained to detect and identify a wide variety of issues that can happen to your gym flooring. We offer solutions on how to rectify these problems and can even oversee installation to ensure proper practice.

Buckling

More times than not, maple sports floors buckle due to lack of moisture control. Hire us to find out the exact reason to your issue.

Poor Installation

You can easily prevent poor installation by finding the right contractor, and hiring us to oversee the contractor’s work.

Finish Problems

When there isn’t proper preparation between coats and sealers, the finish will likely peel, leaving the owner with a useless gym floor.

Base Problems

We can diagnose the issue and prove where and how the problems occurred on poor base installations, and help you get it replaced.

Laminate Failure

Laminate gym floors are simple, but if the installer does not follow manufacturer’s specifications problems can occur.

Subfloor Problems

Improper subfloor installation is one of the most consistent problem found within the maple sports floor industry.

Tape Damage

Gym Floor Inspectors can investigate your maple sports floor to see if your gym floor has been damaged by the use of tape.

Termite Damage

In rare cases, termites can be known to invade their way into maple gym floors, eating up the wood from the bottom on their way to the top.

Water Damage

Gym floors that experience water damage often result in major set backs, and extensive repair is typically needed.

We received a comprehensive report of findings, and he remained committed to us through the entire investigation. His work was key in helping us come to an agreement with the installer to replace the floor without cost to us. I would recommend Floyd to others seeking answers to issues similar to ours.

The Salvation Army

We contacted Floyd and were very pleased to learn of his considerable knowledge of all aspects of wood sports floor installation. We were pleasantly surprised to find at our flooring pre-installation meeting that our installers also knew Floyd and had actually attended courses that he had conducted.
